For patients who decide on permanent sterilization there are two methods to choose from: an Essure procedure, which can be performed in the office, or a laparoscopic procedure (tubal ligation), which is accomplished at the hospital in the outpatient day surgery clinic.


Essure is a permanent sterilization technique for women whose families are complete. There is no incision and it can be done in our office. Tiny micro-coils are inserted into a woman’s tubes using a small instrument inserted into through the uterus. Over time, usually 3 months, the tubal tissue grows into the coils blocking the tubes and preventing pregnancies. To learn more, visit:
